We will show you how to prepare an aircraft cabin for embarking and disembarking passengers, cabin crew standard emergency procedures and equipment, and the passenger inflight safety demonstration. Presentations will be given by professional flight attendants and airline personnel.

Please phone Kharen, Amy, Shermel, or Jennifer on 0800 357 316 for further details.

A flight attendant’s primary job

A flight attendant’s primary job is to ensure that safety regulations are adhered to. The attendant also tries to make flights comfortable and enjoyable for passengers. The job is learned through intensive formal training after being hired. Airlines prefer to hire people who can remain calm under pressure and who can interact well with the public. Applicants must be high school graduates who are at least 18 to 21 years old, in excellent health and have the ability to speak clearly. There is also a height requirement and most airlines prefer candidates with weight proportionate to height. Candidates must also be willing to work nights, weekends, holidays, and to frequently be away from home. In 2000, the median annual starting salary for a flight attendant was $14,847. The airline industry enjoys one of the highest rates of unionization in the United States and Canada.

The biggest question readers were asking us before launch centered around the Skybus flight attendants.

How do I become a Skybus Flight Attendant? What will they wear? Will they be hot? How much will they get paid? Are they going to have to sell, sell, sell?

You have questions, we have answers.

SKYBUS FLIGHT ATTENDANT DETAILS AND PHOTO GALLERY HERE

· Girls wear all black, cotton t-shirt and black short pants. The t-shirts say things like "Outrageously Low Fares" and "$10 To LA And Action". Let's call the attire Applebee's waitress casual.

· Guys wear all black, same cotton t-shirts and black full length pants, thankfully.

· Rumor is, the pay is $9 an hour + 10% on all sales--drinks, meals, and tchatchkes. We feel especially bad for the tchatchke sales guy, who comes across very "Do you want to buy some insurance"-ish.

· Portsmouth to Columbus crew was totally friendly, down to earth, chatting about airline, flight, etc. Columbus to Portsmouth crew was more on the jokester side. Think Southwest. Both crews were trying to upsell, which is part of their job.

· Like on Jetblue, Skybus FAs are in charge of cleaning the plane. However, because they allow no food to be brought on board the plane, they theoretically have less cleaning to do--though we will see how long that rule lasts.
